Borders, piping (optional), and
binding
The colors given are the colors used in the original quilt. You can use different colors. Use colors you like, or what you have enough
of. Remember, we are using our stash…DO
NOT GO BUY FABRIC!
Inner Border: ½ yard of purple print
Middle border and piping (optional): 2/3 yard of gold print
Outer border and binding: 2 yards of green print
Add the Borders
Inner Border: Purple print
Cut 9 – 1 ½” x 42”
strips
Piece the strips
together to make the following:

– 1 ½” x 92 ½” inner border strips
2
– 1 ½” x 72 ½” inner border strips
Sew the short purple print inner border strips to the top and bottom
edges of the piece quilt center. Then
join the long purple print inner border strips to the side edges of the quilt
center. Press all seam allowances toward
the purple print border.
Middle Border and Piping
(optional): Gold print
Cut 9 – 1 ¼” x 42”

Cut 10 – ¾” x 42”
strips for piping
Piece the strips
together to make the following:

– 1 ¼” x 94” middle border strips
2
– 1 ¼” x 74 ½” middle border strips
Sew the short gold print middle border strips to the top and bottom
edges of the pieced quilt center. Then
join the long gold print middle border strips to the side edges of the quilt
center. Press all seam allowances toward
the gold print border.
Outer Border and Binding: Green

Cut 9 – 4 ½” x 42”
strips of outer border
Cut 10 – 2 ½” x
42” binding strips
Piece the strips
together to make the following:

– 4 ½”” x 102” outer border strips
2
– 4 1/2” x 76” outer border strips
Sew the short green print outer border strips to the top and bottom
edges of the pieced quilt center. Then
join the long green print outer border strips to the side edges of the quilt
center to complete the quilt top. Press
all seam allowances toward the green print border.
Complete the Quilt
Layer the quilt top, batting, and backing.
Quilt as desired.
Cut and piece the gold print ¾” x 42” strips to make 1 – ¾” x 385”
piping strip.
With wrong side inside, fold and press the gold print strip in half
lengthwise to make 3/8” wide piping.
Aligning raw edges and using a ¼” seam, baste the piping strip to the
quilt top; miter the corners.
Use the green print 2 ½” x 42” strips to bind the quilt. Note:
About 1/8” of the gold piping will show between the quilt top and binding edge
once the binding is turned back.
